This cultural and artistic facility was donated by Bridgestone Tire Company founder Shojiro Ishibashi “for the happiness and enjoyment of people everywhere”. Roses, camellias and autumn foliage adorn every season in the landscaped gardens. The grounds include a cultural center, a museum, Shojiro Ishibashi’s memorial hall and the former studio of Hanjiro Sakamoto. All of these facilities are well-loved as places to stroll or take a break. Formerly known as the Ishibashi Art Museum, Kurume Art Museum was opened to carry on the tradition of tying together time, people and art. It now serves as the main facility of Ishibashi Cultural Center. With its collection of modern western paintings by artists from Kurume and Kyushu, its variety of exhibitions attracts visitors. Next to the museum is the Shojiro Ishibashi Memorial Hall, which recounts the achievements of Bridgestone’s founder, Shojiro Ishibashi.
