Formerly used as a hospital in the eastern part of Kurume City, this building stands within the traditional townscape of Kusano, a plain extending from the northern foot of Mount Mino. During construction in 1914, it was moved from its original location in the Hanabatake district of Kurume, and construction was completed here. Rare in Kyushu, this large, wooden, the stately exterior of this Western-style 2-story building is well maintained. Including its intricate interiors, the superior design of its structure is highly regarded. In October of 1998, it opened as Yamabe-no-michi Cultural Museum. With exhibit rooms set up to introduce local festivals, its location at the northern foot of Mount Mino can be used as a base for sightseeing. This museum was also registered as a National Cultural Asset of Japan in February of 1999. Peak Blooming Season Camellias: from February through March
