Kurume Gourmet Guide

Kurume Gyoza

Kurume is home to a large number of gyoza restaurants, as well as izakayas (Japanese pubs) and Chinese resaurants that feature gyoza as their main dish. In particular, you can find a large concerntration of gyoza restaurants in the vicinity of Nishitetsu Kurume station.

Of course while Kurume's gyoza roots come from yatai culture, Kurume gyoza is not limited to the conventional Nishitetu bite-sized style of gyoza. Instead you will find that Kurume gyoza varies in shape, size and taste depending on the restaurant. Furthermore, as the supposed birthplace of tonkotsu ramen, Kurume is home to many ramen restaurants, where it is common for gyoza to be served as a side dish. From fillings to skins, to wrapping tecnhniques, to frying styles, you can expect to find a wide variation in the way gyoza is made at each respective gyoza restaurant, izakaya and ramen shop. Enjoy tasting gyoza from various eateries and discover which is your favorite!
