Not Your Ordinary Fireworks!
Kurume has a Shinto ritual called Hanabi Doranbachi, designated by Fukuoka Prefecture as an intangible folk cultural property, which has been handed down for about 360 years and is held every year on September 15th at Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine.
The “bachi” (bee) at the end of the event’s name is said to be derived from the way bees fly out in a fury when a beehive is poked.
When the beehive-like firework, which is 2.5 meters in diameter and 4 meters high, is set on fire, sparks fly into the night sky with a loud sound, and you can enjoy the earth-shaking power of the fireworks.
The color and roar that captivate the audience's senses is unlike any other fireworks, and can only be seen at Hanabi Doranbachi!
Event schedule: September 15th (Sun.) 7:30 – 8:10 pm
Venue: Oji Pond area at Oji Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine (Honmura-ku, Yamakawa-cho, Kurume City)
