Autumn Fruit Picking Experience: Persimmon Picking!
In the Tanushimaru area of Kurume, visitors can enjoy persimmon picking from October to early December.
Did you know that Fukuoka Prefecture is the top producer of persimmons in Japan? What’s more, the Tanushimaru area is a major persimmon-producing region even within the prefecture.
Different varieties of persimmon are available during the season: In October, the “Nishimura Wase” and "Matsumoto" persimmons, followed by "Taishu" persimmons, which weigh about 500g each! Then, in November, "Fuyu" persimmons will be at their peak. The "Fuyu” persimmon is said to be the king of persimmons and is characterized by its melt-in-your-mouth soft flesh, sweetness, and plentiful juice.
October is a great time to visit Kurume as it’ll be cooler and more comfortable. Please come and enjoy the taste of autumn with freshly picked persimmons!
