Kurume City Art Gallery

Originally the Ishibashi Museum of Art, the museum re-opened as the Kurume City Art Museum on Saturday, November 19th, 2016. With the gallery’s reopening, the slogan ‘Connecting time, people and beauty through art.’ was revealed. The collections include Western art related to Kurume and Kyushu, with a wide variety of works on display. Next to the gallery is the ‘Shojiro Ishibashi Memorial Museum’, where you can walk in the footsteps of this famous Kurume local, who founded the Bridgestone Company, the world’s largest maker of tires. From March 3rd 2020, due to the influence of the novel corona virus, both the Kurume City Art Museum and the Shojiro Ishibashi Memorial Museum were temporarily closed to the public. Temporary closures continue, affecting the ‘Kurume Art Museum COLLECTIONING: Ekaki ni Naritai!’ (I Want to Be a Painter!) exhibit, which was to commence on April 4th. For more updates on future exhibits, please visit the museum’s official website.
