The Shojiro Ishibashi Memorial Museum is the first facility ever opened to the public to honor the life and work of this famous Kurume local. Ishibashi dedicated his life working towards the development and prosperity of his hometown, Kurume. Many people are familiar with the Ishibashi Culture Center, which opened in 1956 with the goals of supporting Kurume’s development and promoting the city’s culture, changing in line with the times to suit people’s needs. Amongst other multimedia, the museum now uses movies and voice narrations to introduce visitors to how arts took a foothold in local culture, helping to shape it. They also tell all about Ishibashi and his life.
