Kurume Chuo Park is a park in the center of Kurume city, where locals go to take a breath of fresh air. The symbol of the park, a fountain with the name ‘Ai no Izumi’ (Love’s Fountain) was sculpted by world-renowned sculptor Toyofuku Tomonori. It can be found in the centre of the park, in the 4.7-hectare plaza area. Besides this, there is the Fukuoka Science Museum, Kurume Bird Center, a wave pool, a track and field course, a gym, a tennis court, a martial arts stadium and a baseball field, letting visitors enjoy a wide array of sports and recreational activities. In Gogaku forest to the west of the park, busts of local historical figures like Hisashige Tanaka and Den Inoue tell of the area’s history. Irises in bloom may be viewed here throughout June.
